Eye on Community 8.30.2010
It's been an exciting couple of weeks here at NCSOFT with the first official unveiling of Aion®: Assault on Balaurea™ at gamescom and the expansion's content coming onto our public test servers shortly after that. Aion: Assault on Balaurea is the result of a lot of hard work, and we truly believe you will see the results of that work in its new content and features.
Last week, members of the Aion team were at gamescom showing off the expansion in all its glory. Head on over to the NCSOFT at gamescom 2010 event page for live video from the show floor, pictures of the event, and more.
This week the Aion team will be hanging out at PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) in Seattle, Washington. Coming to the show? Head on over to our booth #542 for a hands-on preview of Aion: Assault on Balaurea and a chance to get your mitts on our Tutty 'n' Beans swag pack. After the show on Friday, make sure to stop by our Assault on Balaurea launch party with a special concert featuring the Wonder Girls.
Now it's time to answer some questions that's right, you heard me, QUESTIONS!
Question of the Week
Ardai of Vaizel asks:
"Why was I allowed to transfer Elyos off Zikel and Nezekan but not Vaziel??"
Great question, Ardai!
During the character transfer process, the transfers are not restricted and capped by what source server you are from. They are restricted and capped by what the destination server is. If you could not transfer off Zikel, this is because all the other servers for your race had already met the cap for transfers for this round.
Part of the update to our transfer service was the implementation of an automatic safeguard that dynamically prevents transfers that would have a negative impact on the balance of a server. In short, this update will help improve server balance over time.
If you didn't make this transfer, fear not. This is only the beginning! Once we've completed the transfer during Wednesday's maintenance, we will reevaluate server populations and then reopen the signup process.
Shira of Israphel asks:
"I am excited for Aion: Assault on Balaurea to be released, but is Balaurea a strict level 50+ zone or will anyone of any level be able to go there?"
Thanks for the question, Shira.
We'd love to get into detail about how Daevas can reach Balaurea and what this expansion will bring to our players. First of all, Aion: Assault on Balaurea introduces three new overland zones (Inggison, Gelkmaros, and Silentera Canyon) and several instances within those zones. At level 50, Daevas will be able to obtain a quest to gain access to Balaurea. Daevas will not be granted transport to the newly discovered lands until after they have reached level 50 and have completed the quest prerequisite.
However, Aion: Assault on Balaurea is bringing a great deal of new content to players of all levels.
Pets, Pets, Pets
Whether they are doing tricks, alerting you to danger, carrying your items, or creating awesome stuff for you, there's no refuting that these pets are darned cute! Daevas can begin to adopt these critters early in their career.
There are two solo instances in Aion: Assault on Balaurea for characters below level 50 to discover.
Haramel: Brainwashed Kobolds, mad MuMu scientists, devious malefactors, and a shovelthose comprise just a taste of what awaits Daevas who brave the terrors of Haramel! Daevas from level 18-22 can explore this instance, but they should watch out for the devious Hamerun.
Kromedes' Trial: Kromede has been a thorn in Atreia's side since the beginning days of Aion. While in the Nightmare solo instance, you embody Kromede as you battle your way out of captivity and ultimately seek revenge on those who have wronged you. Nightmare is an action-packed instance full of gadgets, secret passageways, and even a little romance.
Improved Drop Rates and Experience Gain
We've adjusted certain bosses' drop rates in a number of instances. Additionally, you'll notice that we've increased the experience reward of many existing quests. There's never been a better time to be a character leveling up in Aion!
These are just a few examples of new content being added for all our players to enjoy. I've always thought of Aion: Assault on Balaurea as the house that we're building on the foundation that we began with 1.9. We can't wait for you to see it for yourself so we can hear what you think!
