Greetings Daevas and Happy Daeva’s Day!
As Aion turns the corner and completes its 7th year of live service in the West, it's as good a time as ever to take a step back and look at where it stands. This past year has not been without its challenges, and we definitely would not have made it through without the loyalty and dedication of you, our players. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you from the entire Aion team.
In this letter, I'll share with you some of the team's priorities and plans for the next twelve months. Bear in mind that we're already working on these as I write this, and on several of them simultaneously - while we might prioritize one or two in the immediate term, none will be neglected. Lastly, this is not an exhaustive list, just some insight into what we are planning for the coming year – as time moves on and other plans become more solidified, I will write more letters to address them.
The Long Term
With the 5.0 update just behind us, one of our top priorities is to improve the frequency of our game updates, and improve the communication surrounding them. In recent months, we've fallen further behind schedule than we would like to be, and this is obviously a problem. Also, it's not fair to our players to have to watch those from other regions enjoy an update for months on end, with little word from us about when that update will be out here. To that end, we are streamlining our update process and will be better about communicating with players on when they can expect to see content.
Another major item we have been discussing (and a hot topic in the community) is server merges. While Aion has much to offer, server population has been falling for some time. Those of you who remain are as dedicated as ever and are sustaining the game with your passion and patronage, but we still want the best possible environment for you to play in. Before making official announcements, there are several considerations we need to make - player-side impacts like rankings, housing and game economy, and team-side impacts such as scheduling needs and how this may (or may not) affect the overall schedule of our game updates. We are still in preliminary discussions regarding server merges so we're not ready to announce anything just yet, but look for this information in the coming months.
The Immediate Future
In the coming weeks, the Daeva’s Day events will wrap up, and we will move into Harvest Revel. Popular events such as Alchemy and the Nightmare Circus will return. Moving further out, we look forward to the next update to Echoes of Eternity arriving before the year is out, bringing with it a host of changes to the Arena as well as a level 66+ Dredgion and a new Archdaeva-exclusive crafting discipline. We will post more information as we near the release date, but know that we are all very excited to have you experience this update and the next chapter of Aion’s story.
If you’re looking into jumping back into Aion, we definitely encourage you and welcome you to do so! The success and longevity of the game would not be possible without your continued support and passion for the game.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and we hope to see you in game.
