January Community Address

Greetings Daevas,

A month has passed since our December address—a month that's been very eventful in many ways.

Throughout January, we have seen many players asking about when they can expect new content updates, when our account services will go live, and when we will host another double experience weekend. We posted earlier this week about when you can expect another double experience weekend. In the short term, we're hoping to hold these events once or twice each month.

In upcoming months, we will tell you more about our content plans for the year. We will be adding a substantial amount of new content and refining the content we have already. We believe that an MMO is not only a product, it's a service. It deserves constant care and improvement. In that spirit, we will also be spending more time mobilizing in-game events. We are planning to offer frequent such events, and we are currently planning them out and looking at how we can make them as enjoyable as possible.

GSU's Message on Account Security

Greetings, all. I'm Scott Jennings, otherwise known as GM Luminary, working with NCSOFT's Game Surveillance Unit (GSU). I've been asked to take some time to speak for a bit on the fallout from the war that we've been fighting in our games against real money trading (RMT) companies and others trying to violate your account security, and how you can help in the fight.

Make no mistake—it is a war. One that you, our players, see the effects of whenever you play our games or visit forums related to our games. Many of you have noticed the decrease in bots, farmers, and gold spammers as a result of our efforts.

We are bringing the Aion servers down at 3:30 a.m. PST, January 20, 2010 (more) for maintenance.

The maintenance is estimated to take no longer than 3 hours.

Thank you for your patience!

Double Experience Weekend Incoming

Greetings Daevas,

Who's ready for another Double Experience Weekend?! That's right! It's time to once again stock up on caffeinated products in preparation for a weekend without sleep. This Friday, January 22nd, at 8pm (server time), we will enable double experience. The experience bonus will run through the weekend before ending on Monday at 8am (server time).

To put the start time into context, we've broken down what time the double experience will start on each server. Plan accordingly and enjoy the double experience!

Solorius Festival Video Contest Winners

Last week the Solorius Festival Video Contest came to an official end. Since that time, we've been watching videos in an effort to narrow these fantastic videos down to our favorite ten. On Wednesday, 12 members of the Aion team were locked in a conference room to view the videos that made it to the finals. It wasn't easy, but we're happy to announce that we've chosen our winners. Drum roll, please!

First Prize: Twas the Night of Solorius
Nikole Gamble of Minneapolis, Minnesota

Second Prize: Shugo Baby
Amanda Hampton of Salt Lake City, Utah

Third Prize: Solorius Claus
Tim Asta of Seattle, Washington

Chris "Kinslon" Hager Named Aion Producer

Greetings Daevas,

Now that we're well into a new year, we're going to begin talking about the almost overwhelming amount of things we have in store for Aion in 2010. It's only fitting that with the new year comes new leadership on Aion. As such, Chris "Kinslon" Hager has taken a step up from Associate Producer and has been named Aion's Producer.

You may know Chris already — he's been with NCSOFT since the fall of 2005. He has worked on multiple NCSOFT titles throughout the years including Guild Wars, Lineage II and Aion. His passion for games goes far beyond his profession: He's also a hardcore gamer that plays games across multiple platforms. Some of his favorite titles include: Bioshock, Mass Effect and the Legend of Zelda series (He's never been able to decide on a favorite.)

Sirei on server [DE]Votan asks

"The community is having problems with the new fortress raid duration of 30 minutes. It also seems to cause a problem with the Dredgion. Will the time get adjusted again so that it is possible to attack and not only defend them?"

The siege system's timers have been topics for debate dating back to a patch we released for Aion just before the end of last year. The argument is that the new 30-minute siege duration, during which the Guardian Deity is present, is too short for a siege to be easily completed.
