Eye on Community 04.23.2010

Well met, folks!

We hope you had a great past week with Aion and that you're eager to jump into the fray that is another double XP weekend!

Martin "Amboss" Rabl, German community manager, decided to part ways with NCSOFT and explore new pastures. Martin has been a hard-working and serious employee who always put in long hours to get the job done during his time working on Aion and before that, City of Heroes. Not only did he contribute to the Community Team as a passionate person who always went above and beyond for the players, but also in being a great friend and awesome teammate.

Coming Soon: Public Test Server

Game patches have a long way to travel from conception to actual implementation on live services. One of the stages — Quality Assurance - involves thorough testing of new content, but it's not always enough to cover the nearly infinite amount of scenarios that are prone to occur when legions of players eventually bite into a patch on the live servers.

As a way to reduce the likelihood of imbalance and bugs reaching live servers unnoticed and unresolved, we have for some time been working to launch two Public Test Servers (PTS), one for our North American Aion players and one for European Aion players. The two servers will after much preparation open their gates for the first time on the 29th of April.

Server Maintenance 3:30 a.m. PDT, April 21, 2010

Greetings Daevas,

We are bringing the Aion servers down at 3:30 a.m. PDT, April 21, 2010 (more) for maintenance.

The maintenance is estimated to take no longer than 3 hours.

Thank you for your patience!

The More You MMO #2 - A Bad Deal

One of the common misconceptions about power-leveling services is that they are typically safe, and using them is a painless process. This notion couldn't be any further from the truth. When you pay third party companies or groups to level your character, you open the doors to the possibility of future compromise of your account, which could result in losing everything you've worked so hard to obtain. These companies save your information with the intention of stealing everything at a later date. It's important to point out that these are professional thieves. Even if you change your password, they know your personal information, so it becomes all the more likely that they'll regain access to your account with malicious intent.

Eye on Community 04.16.2010

Greetings Daevas,

If you saw the second "Ask Kinslon" interview, you know that we are bringing update 1.9 to the live servers in May. Many of you have been asking what takes us so long to bring these patches to our other territories. It's a good question, and one that we answer in our question of the week.

Question of the Week

Yukina of Telemachus asked:

"Many of us are wondering why it takes a few months to receive new patches. Could you explain the westernization process of patches like 1.9 to us?"

Ask Kinslon: Aion v1.9 Interview #2

This week, our Daeva of Journalism, Aquilanius, spoke with Aion Producer Chris "Kinslon" Hager about Two-Handed Armsfusion and the Mist Item Rental system coming to Aion in May with the 1.9 update. That's right, we said May!

Aquilanius: How does this system differ to the Daily Quest reward rental system?

Kinslon: The items you receive from the daily quest reward system are rarer and have a wider variety of time limitations (3, 7 and 14 days). For the longer time lengths, it will take a lot more daily quest completions to be able to get these. The Mist Rental weapons are all 14 day weapons and are available every 5 levels so players can use them at a wide range of levels. Also, they are great for players who want to rent a good weapon to power through a weekend or instance instead of completing several daily quests to get the higher stat weapons or paying potentially a lot more for a weapon they would shortly outgrow.
